A THURROCK youngster has gone more than the extra mile to help out fellow members of his local Beavers pack.

Across the borough over the past few days many members of Thurrock and District Scouts have been taking part in a fundraising challenge called JOTT ('Jamboree on The Trail').

Members of Beaver, Cub and Scout groups were urged – as a group – to complete a 37.5 mile walking challenge between 8 and 16 May.

But one young man, seven-year-old Harrison Hammond, who is a member of Kestrels Beavers (Orsett & Bulphan Beavers - Scouts) decided he wanted to walk 40 miles by himself and also raise money for his colony after it was closed for the majority of 2020 due to the pandemic.

Mum Kayleigh set up a fundraising page and a target of £750 was set – which Harrison has smashed!

And Harrison also beat his walking target, completing more than 41 miles.

Kayleigh says: "We are so proud of his determination and commitment to this challenge, he didn't complain once throughout the walks and some days completed more than miles!!

"He is such a trooper and our little soldier."
