Thurrock secondary school places: 72.1% of children get first choice

By Neil Speight 5th Mar 2020

THURROCK Council has announced that just under three-quarters of children in the borough were awarded their first choice of secondary school for the new academic year.

First choice picks were granted to 72. 1 per cent of applications, up from 71.2 last year.

  1. 4 per cent of pupils who are expected to begin secondary school this September have been offered one of their three top school preferences, an increase from 87.9% in 2019.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, portfolio holder for education, said: "Thanks to our continued investment in school places across the borough we can ensure that as many children as possible are able to attend one of their preferred secondary school choices.

"I wish all our young people the best of luck as they make their transition from primary to secondary school and continue to learn, develop and achieve in Thurrock."
