Large field fire close to A13 caused its closure

EIGHT teams of firefighters tackled a 10 hectare field fire off Long Lane, Stifford Clays, on Monday evening.

A statement from Essex Fire and Rescue service said: "We were called at 8.10pm and, at its height, we had eight appliances, including from Basildon, Brentwood Orsett, Rayleigh Weir and Grays.

"Crews surrounded the fire by 9.25pm and remained at the scene dampening down and checking for hotspots."

Police closed a section of the A13 and Dock Approach Road due to smoke blowing across the carriageways.
