Late night stint for line painters - but have they botched it again?

THURROCK Council contractors were out and in action this evening (Tuesday, 2 March) attempting to put right another botched piece of highways engineering - but it appears they have messed up again.

As reported on Nub News at the weekend residents on London Road had told of their fears and concern after important road safety marking were omitted when contractors returned to complete the work from resurfacing work that took place a couple of weeks ago.

One told how a near serious accident was only avoided by inches because as a car was held up in the midst of the busy junction with Stanford Road (A1013) because the right turn was blocked as 'keep clear' signage was missing.

Thurrock Council has declined to respond to questions about the failure to complete the work properly and who was responsible for due diligence to make sure such jobs were completed properly.

Local ward councillors have asked similar questions but in a week when a damning independent report on council communication says only scant lip service is paid to democratically-elected councillors and the media, it was perhaps not surprising that they too have not had answers.

However, at least the road crews were out tonight - but it may not be the end of the matter.

Teams of line painters and traffic managers were in action from around 8pm this evening and the work was completed just after 9pm. Residents who use the access, have already commented on the narrowness of the marking, which barely appears to allow a car's width for traffic to cross when turning right across queuing traffic.

The only way to get through is to drive across the central reservation!
