The junction, which sits on the busy link road between Grays, Tilbury and Chadwell, has become notorious with a lengthy series of major crashes happening there over several years, but Thurrock Council's highways department, which manages local roads, insists there are no issues with the design, signage or viewing of traffic at the junction.

A police statement says: "We were called at about 2.45pm on Monday 17 July to reports of a collision involving two cars on Marshfoot Road, near the A1089.

"The cars did not obstruct the road. We were called to assist emergency service colleagues at the scene with traffic management."
