Latest fire sends up plume of smoke from sea wall

FIREFIGHTERS are currently dealing with a fire near the sea wall at East Tilbury late this afternoon (Thursday, 24 September).

For the second day running, following yesterday's major blaze at Tilbury, a large pall of smoke rose over the area.

This time it comes from a brush fire.

A spokesperson for Essex County Fire and Rescue said at 5.45pm: "Firefighters are currently dealing with a fire affecting approximately one hectare of brushland.

"Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident."
