MORE details will be seen by councillors this week of a plan for 153 new homes on a site where planning permission was first granted in 2011.

Originally, more than nine years ago, the site in Stanford-le-Hope which is accessed via the Southend Road and Victoria Road roundabout and is bordered by the Manorway and the c2c rail line, was granted permission for up to 185 homes.

In the intervening years varies amended schemes have been brought forward and approved, without work ever commencing.

However, this time it appears the current application may get over the line and is being recommended for approval by officers when it comes up at Thursday's (12 August) planning meeting.

The scheme comprises 61 three bed, 28 four bed and 10 two bed homes that will be sold for private housing, there will be 15 two bed flats, 15 two bed houses and eight three bed homes that will be made available at affordable rents and a further 12 two bed homes and four three bed houses will be sold through shared ownership schemes.

There has been little local opposition to the latest scheme, which already has outline permission, though the nearby Hassengate Medical Centre has raised the issue of further pressure on local GP facilities.

On the other side of the rail line, Persimmon are currently building 127 new homes on an estate named Stanford Meadows.
