THURROCK Council's lead councillor for 'good growth' has welcomed this week's planning approval for a new Grays riverside feature.
As reported on Thurrock Nub News, the green light has been given for the building of an improved seawall, pathway and cycle way linking Grays Town Wharf with Tilbury Docks which will enable residents to enjoy and interact with the river Thames.
Cabinet member Cllr Lee Watson says: "The plans will help us take advantage of the miles of beautiful riverfront that we have in Grays, creating a fantastic new walkway and cycle path between Grays and Tilbury Docks, with stunning riverside views.
"They are also the first phase of works that will transform Grays Riverfront area by joining up parks and creating new leisure and cultural facilities that take full advantage of Grays location next to the Thames.
"We have carried out extensive consultation on these plans and taken onboard feedback in making this application. We received overwhelming support, with nearly 84% of respondents supporting the scheme.
"These are exciting plans and with planning permission being granted they have taken a huge step forward."
Construction on the new pathway is expected to get underway in early 2027.
