Lest We Forget - borough will commemorate and honour its fallen over Remembrance weekend

THURROCK is set for a weekend of Remembrance with a host of services and commemorations taking place across the borough.

There will be at least three significant events on Saturday, 11 November which is Armistice Day.

Civic dignitaries and armed forces representatives will assemble at 10.30am for a service at the war memorial on High Street, Grays, while Chadwell branch of the Royal British Legion will host its traditional Saturday event at the village war memorial in Orsett, opposite the Whitmore Arms. Starting at 10.45am.

A service will also take place on Saturday at Ardale War Memorial, Guardian Avenue, Stifford Green.

Remembrance Sunday will be a busy day with early commemorations at the War Memorial on the wall of St Michael's Church, Fobbing (9.15am), St Michael's Church, Aveley (9.45am) and the memorial on Rectory Road (Turps Corner) in Little Thurrock at 9.30am.

Remembrance in Stanford-le-Hope. This display is outside Homesteads Village Hall.

Stanford-le-Hope has become one of the region's largest commemorations over recent years with several thousand people attending. Its service on the Green outside St Margaret's Church, will begin with a short parade at 10.30am.

Grays war memorial will also be the scene of a large gathering, starting at 9.45am.

10am - War Memorial opposite Whitmore Arms, Orsett

10.45am - War Memorial on the wall of St Mary's Church, Corringham

10.45am - St Mary's Church, Linford Road,Chadwell St Mary

10.45am - Bata War Memorial, East Tilbury

10.45am - St Peter and St Paul Church, Orsett Road, Horndon on the Hill

10.45am - Stifford Memorial Obelisk, St Mary the Virgin Church, High Road, North Stifford

10.45am - St Nicholas Church, The Green, South Ockendon

2pm - St Mary-the-Virgin Church, Church Road,Bulphan

2.30pm - War Memorial on the wall in Kershaw Close, Chafford Hundred

On Monday evening the International Cruise Terminal at the Port of Tilbury will host its traditional annual Remembrance service, which will begin at 6pm.

Other smaller services are likely to take place at points across the borough.
