TWO women, one with serious injuries, remain in the Royal London Hospital today (Thursday, 9 November) after being victims of a hit and run incident in Grays last night.

As reported on Thurrock Nub News, Dock Road in Little Thurrock was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident when the women were hit by a car just after 8.15pm.

A statement from the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed the severity of the incident, saying: "Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to Dock Road (A126) near its junction with Marshfoot Road following reports of two women injured in a road traffic collision.

"Two patients, one with serious injuries, were transported by road ambulance to the Royal London Hospital."

The vehicle left the scene and, as yet, has not been recovered. Initially it was thought by nearby residents that a vehicle had been found – but it may have been the vehicle involved in an unconnected incident at Daneholes roundabout when a vehicle left the road and had to be recovered from Blackshots playing field.

The unconnected car was recovered from Blackshots Playing Fields near the Daneholes roundabout last night.

Today police have renewed their appeal for witnesses and any information about the black saloon car involved at Little Thurrock.

A statement says: "We are renewing our appeal for witnesses and information after two pedestrians were left seriously injured following a collision with a vehicle in Grays.

"Our officers were called by ambulance service colleagues to the scene of a collision in Dock Road, at the junction with Marshfoot Road, shortly after 8.15pm.

"The vehicle involved left the scene and enquiries are continuing at pace to find it.

"Two women have been taken to hospital with serious injuries and continue to receive treatment."

Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes, of Essex Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, added: "Witnesses have described a black saloon car, potentially a BMW.

"We are urgently looking to find this vehicle and are carrying out a number of enquiries to do so.

"Anyone with any information, or anyone who witnessed this incident, is asked to come forward.

"In particular, I would ask anyone in the area who has been asked to make repairs to a vehicle with visible front-end damage over the past 24 hours to consider this appeal, and whether the vehicle matches the description given by witnesses."

Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any CCTV footage from the area to contact the force, quoting incident number 1095 of 8 November.

The statement adds: "You can let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.

"Visit https://www.essex.police.uk/digital101to find out more about our website reporting services. Alternatively, you can call us on 101.

"If you would like to make an anonymous report, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on Twitter at @CrimestoppersUK, by visiting their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
