Litter pickers will be back on the riverbank

A NEW series of litter picks on the north bank of the Thames have been highlighted by local River Action Clean-Up Facilitator Steve Catchpole of the Thames21 River Action Group.

Steve says: "The quantity of rubbish along the foreshore has reduced considerably thanks to previous efforts, which is great news for the environment. Our task now is to keep on top of the rubbish to help ensure it does not get out of control again."

Below are listed the future events that local residents are are invited to join. Mr Catchpole adds that attendance will be limited to 15 people at each event. Those wanting to take part can email him at undefined [email protected].

Dates of future litter picks:

Sunday, 3 October – meeting at Grays Yacht Club RM17 6JF at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. The Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick.

Tuesday, 12 October – meeting at old St Clements Church RM20 4AL from 10:30 to 13:30. Back by popular demand - picking along the Graffiti Wall towards the QE2 Bridge, this event will entail about a four mile walk.

Thursday, 28 October – meeting at Worlds End Pub in Tilbury RM18 7NR from 10:30 to 13:30. Picking near the cruise terminal and Tilbury Fort, this event will entail about a two mile walk.

Saturday, 30 October – meeting at Wharf Hotel in Grays RM17 6SZ from 13:00 to 15:30. Picking along the foreshore towards Fiddlers Reach, this event will entail about a 2 mile walk.

Sunday, 7 November – meeting at Grays Yacht Club RM17 6JF at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. The Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick.

Tuesday, 9 November – meeting opposite Purfleet train station, Purfleet on Thames RM19 1PP from 10:30 to 13:30. Picking along the foreshore, this event will entail about a 2 mile walk.

Thursday, 25 November – meeting at old St Clements Church RM20 4AL from 10:30 to 13:30. Back by popular demand - picking along the Graffeti Wall near the QE2 Bridge, this event will entail about a four mile walk.

Sunday, 5 December – meeting at Grays Yacht Club RM17 6JF at 10:30 to 12:00 followed by free refreshments in the café. The Grays Beachcombers regular monthly pick.
