Updated: Long A13 delays after motorbike crash - Rider taken to hospital.

WESTBOUND traffic on the A13 in Thurrock was significantly delayed following recovery and investigation of an accident around 5.45am.

Police have confirmed the incident involved a rider who came off the motorbike after a collision. The incident is being investigated and police have appealed for witnesses.

Firefighter were among emergency services that attended but were not needed. It is understood the rider was not seriously hurt, though he was taken to Basildon Hospital.

A statement from East of England Ambulance Service says: "An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the motorbike rider was transported to Basildon University Hospital for further care."

Two London-bound lanes were closed between the Orsett Cock roundabout and North Stifford interchange with traffic backing up and delays of around 20 minutes.

Around 8.30am it was reported traffic was free-flowing again.

A police statement says: "We were called to reports of a collision on the A13, near to the A1089, shortly before 5.45am today (Wednesday, 18 December).

"A motorbike rider had come off their bike.
