LONG delays remain at the Dartford Crossing, particularly northbound through the tunnels after this afternoon's (Wednesday, 7 April) crash on the motorway junction with the A2 in Kent.

Just after 5pm Highways England reported northbound delays of up to 90 minutes and there is still congestion heading south and on approach road to the M25 in Thurrock.

Recovery of the lorry that came to rest hanging over a bridge parapet began just after 5pm, with Highways England describing it as a 'complex' operation.

Traffic off the motorway on the north of the river is beginning to run freely now, with one motorist saying at around 6.30 she was able to get in and out of the area relatively quickly.
