BOROUGH teacher, Lucy Cordell, completed the iconic London Marathon on Sunday (27 April), beating her fundrasing target of £2,000.

Her donation will be to the charity Age UK and in memory of her beloved nan who she describes as a 'force like no other'.

Lucy's nan, who passed away recently, was a powerful presence in her life — full of strength, compassion, and positivity.

Inspired by the spirit of her 'Nanny Bonkers' and determined to honour her legacy, Lucy took on the gruelling 26.2-mile challenge across London to raise both funds and awareness for Age UK, a charity close to her heart.

Lucy, who teaches at Arthur Bugler Primary in Stanford-le-Hope said: "Running the London Marathon was about more than just crossing the finish line.

"It was a way to honour my nan's life and everything she stood for.

"She was the ultimate beacon of hope for so many of us in our family, and beyond.

"She was my number 1 fan and would always be cheering me on whatever challenge I faced. She would always say, that whenever I walked into a room it would light up, but I think that happened whenever Nan would appear.

"The world lost a little sparkle when Nan passed away. So, this one is for you Nanny Bonkers."

recalling her run, lucy added: "The crowds were phenomenal and kept my feet going right until the very end – their cheers and support will be with me for a lifetime.

"If the London Marathon taught me one thing it is that anyone is capable of anything, and nobody should think otherwise."

All funds raised through Lucy's marathon effort will go toward Age UK, supporting vital services for older people across the UK.
