A THURROCK charity is celebrating receipt of a major donation from the Lower Thames Crossing Community Fund.

The local branch of the Re-engage organisation has received £8,000 from the fund, which seeks to mitigate and compensate for the negative impact of the £11 billion project that will cut through the borough.

Regional organiser for Re-engage, Loraine Coleman said: "This very generous funding will help us continue delivering our Re-engage Thurrock tea party groups, bringing friendship, companionship, laughter and connection to older people across our community.

"These gatherings help to reduce loneliness, improve wellbeing and strengthen community connections, making a real difference to the lives of local people aged 75 and over.

"A heartfelt thank you to the Lower Thames Crossing Community Fund, Essex Community Foundation and National Highways for your wonderful support and belief in our work.

"Together, we are helping older people across Thurrock stay connected, feel valued, enjoy companionship, and live happier, less lonely lives.

"Thank you for helping us make such a meaningful difference in Thurrock."

Events organised by Re-engage continue apace and, most recently, guests from the Thurrock 5 tea party group enjoyed a summer outing today at Thurrock Garden Centre.

The afternoon began with a roast dinner followed by dessert at Woody's Restaurant, before enjoying a leisurely browse around the garden centre shops.

Loraine added: "The outing was made possible thanks to the support of the DP World London Gateway Freeport Community Investment Fund. Your kindness enables us to continue creating these special moments for our tea party guests and we truly can't thank you enough.

"A very big thank you also goes to our wonderful volunteers. Without your care, kindness and dedication, these enjoyable outings simply wouldn't be possible.

"Finally, thank you to Jo and her team at Woody's for making us feel so welcome and looking after everyone so well. Your warm hospitality was greatly appreciated."
