FIREFIGHETERS, including crews who are trained in dealing with hazardous materials (HAZMAT), ambulance teams and police are in attendance at an incident at Brennan Road, Tilbury.

An alarm was raised around noon and emergency vehicles were rushed to the area.

Roads in the immediate area have been closed.

A statement from Essex Police at 1.20pm says: "We were called to reports of a suspicious package in Brennan Road, Tilbury at 11.20am today (Wednesday 31 May).

"We are working with our partners to identify the contents of the package.

"The road has been closed and we would ask people to avoid the area."

Essex Fire and Police have released the following statement: "We were called to the Brennan Road area of Tilbury today at 11.52am.

Crews from Grays and Orsett, and a Detection, Identification and Monitoring unit, used in suspected chemical incidents, attended.

"A 50-metre cordon is in place around the scene.

"Three people who were feeling sick are in the care of the Ambulance Service

"We are continuing to work with the Ambulance Service, Essex Police and other partners."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11:48am to a chemical exposure incident at a residential address in Tilbury. Three ambulances, two ambulance officers and a rapid response vehicle were all in attendance. Patients were medically assessed on scene but were not conveyed to hospital."
