RESIDENTS and businesses in the heart of Grays say they are shocked to learn that major gasworks in the town will close its principal through road for four weeks.

A gas main is being moved at the junction of Hogg Lane and Orsett Road and work has started, meaning a complete closure to through traffic.

Pedestrians can pass.

Thurrock Nub News received calls today (Thursday, 25 June) about they road closure, saying they had no advance notice.

One business owner said: "This will cause chaos and damage to my trade and I knew nothing about it."

However, the works - which follow on from an earlier part closure managed by traffic lights on another part of Hogg Lane - have been announced well in advance by Cadent, the company carrying out the works.
