Making it public - former councillor offers advice to those who wish to serve communities

A FORMER Thurrock councillor has published a new book aimed at helping people who are considering public service roles.

Bukky Okunade has more than 25 years of experience serving the public as a councillor, magistrate, school governor, and founder of TAG Community Radio

In her a new book, The Act of Service: Your Guide to Public Roles and Becoming Influential in the UK, she shares practical advice, personal stories, and clear steps to help others start their own journey in public service.

"This book is for anyone who wants to make a difference but isn't sure how to begin," says Ms Okunade. "Whether you're thinking about becoming a school governor, trustee, or community leader, there's a role for you. You can start small and build real, lasting influence step by step."
