A MAN died in a fire at his home in Corringham yesterday (Tuesday, 4 April).

Firefighters from Corringham, Orsett and Basildon attended the semi-detached house in Branksome Avenue when an alarm was raised just after 3pm.

They found a well-developed fire on the first floor and fully extinguished it by 4.06pm.

They were unable to save a man who was in the bedroom. Neighbours have told Nub News the deceased was housebound.

Essex Police have released the following statement: "We were called to a fire at a house in Branksome Avenue, shortly after 3.05pm. Sadly, a man inside was found dead.

"Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire but we are not currently treating the man's death as suspicious."

The East of England Ambulance Service was called to the incident and an ambulance, an ambulance officer and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended.
