Man is charged after hammer incident in Grays

A MAN has been charged following after another man was threatened with a hammer.

The incident happened in Churchill Road, Grays, shortly after 8.10am yesterday (Saturday 20 June).

Richard Johnson, 28, of Gainsborough Avenue, Tilbury, was charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place; using threatening or abusive words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence; and a racially or religiously aggravated public order offence. He was also charged with receiving stolen goods.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

A 29-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge.
