THURROCK Council has explained the reason for the latest roadworks on the Manorway at Stanford-le-Hope.

A lane was coned off earlier this week, adjacent to previous patching on the carriageway.

Work is expected to cost the council around £20,000 but a spokesperson says it is not a repeat of previous problems.

A statement from Thurrock Council says: "The current works are on a different section of the Manorway, a section which has not previously subsided and therefore has not had any work done on it before.

"They address an issue being caused by ground water under the road and clay shrinkage. The total cost is £20,000.

"When road works are completed they are monitored to ensure there are no further issues."
