A YOUNG man from Stanford-le-Hope has been honoured by the borough mayor and added to the Town Hall's Roll of Honour.

Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick bestowed the tribute on 17-year-old Franky Weston Turpin, 17, who has been recognised for his dedication to volunteering, fundraising, and his role as a young carer.

Alongside his community work, Franky is also employed by Runwood Homes, where he supports residents and continues to demonstrate his commitment to caring for others.

Franky was inspired from an early age by his late great-grandmother, Rita Giles MBE JP, whose lifelong dedication to public service helped shape his strong sense of community and commitment to helping others.

He is also inspired by his mother, Leigh-Anne Turpin, whose charity work includes running marathons in support of the NSPCC, alongside her long-standing dedication to the local scouting community.

Franky has supported local charities including Barnardo's and Havens Hospices, and has been actively involved in community fundraising events such as the Stanford and Corringham Carnival and seasonal Santa routes, helping to raise funds for Little Havens Hospice.

In addition to his volunteering, Franky plays a significant role supporting his disabled great-aunt, and previously cared for his grandmother during end-of-life care at a young age.

Balancing these responsibilities with work and community involvement highlights his compassion, resilience and maturity.

Franky is also involved with Friends of Treetops School, where he serves as Personal Assistant and Secretary to the Chairperson, supporting fundraising and initiatives for pupils with additional needs and disabilities.

He also contributes to the Corringham, Fobbing and Homesteads Community Forum.

His achievements have previously been recognised through awards such as the Jack Petchey Achievement Award,

Franky is also a keen musician, playing both guitar and piano, and performs at local care homes to bring enjoyment to residents.
