AS Thurrock Nub News continues to set the pace on the borough's local news agenda the UK's top media politician has commended the concept of bringing local news back to communities.

Minister for Media and Data John Whittingdale, whose own Maldon constituency is also served by a Nub News site, has praised Nub News for showing there is still a demand for community-focused local journalism.

His comments come as Thurrock Nub News has surged past 400,000 page views in January alone – and it could possibly reach the magical half million mark by the end of the month. More than 3.25 million pages on our site have been viewed since our launch at the end of 2019 with our companion Facebook and You Tube sites also racking up big numbers.

The success of Nub News in Thurrock has been followed by the recent launch of a sister site, Basildon Nub News which brings the number of Nub News sites to 62 across England and Wales and many more are due to be rolled out in the coming weeks and months.

Mr Whittingdale said: "I am delighted by the success of Nub News which proves there is still a strong demand for professionally produced local news content.

"In my own constituency, Nub News is now embedded in the local community and is already doing a great job providing a fast and reliable source of local news."
