DESPITE the mistaken intervention of Covid cops, last weekend's music fundraiser hosted by the Grays-based Thames Delta Radio station has been declared a big success.

The event, called Freedom of the Mind, was a 12 hour music marathon on Saturday featuring 14 DJs who gave their services for free while listeners tuned in and made donations totaling £800 which will be presented to mental health charity Thurrock and Brentwood Mind.

CEO and founder of Thames Delta radio Dorion Quest said: "The day was a great success and I would like to say a massive thank-you to 14 DJs that kept the music going all day and a huge big up to Joe Harper a local DJ who organised the event, She did an amazing job.

"We did have one hiccup, though. An anonymous caller called the Covid breach line and reported there was a charity event and party taking place in Grays library.

"The police Covid response team came to check it out and found that no Covid breach had or was taking place and since then the anonymous call has been logged as a malicious phone call.

"We are in the process of organising more charity events and invite people to contact us if they would like Thames Delta Radio to help raise money for their group, charity or organisation.

"People can email [email protected] with their proposals or ideas.

"Meanwhile I can also report Quest Music Services which powers Thames Delta Radio have been granted more funding from the Arts Council England to deliver the Red Alert for arts in Thurrock project through March, April and May 2021. Expect more fantastic virtual events and online entertainment being broadcast from our facility in the Thameside Complex in Grays."
