THE A13 was closed for several hours yesterday (Wednesday, 8 August) after an HGV struck a bridge at Wennington.

The incident was captured on dashcam on a vehicle right behind as the lorry struck as it travelled eastbound around noon.

Both carriageways were initially closed after the incident but westbound opened once it had been checked out.

Eastbound remained closed for several hours.

An Essex Police statement said: "The incident was reported shortly after 12pm on Tuesday, 8 August.

"No injuries have been reported but the bridge has been damaged and a road closure has been put in place.

"For safety reasons, the A13 has been closed. The carriageway over the bridge has also been closed.

"National Highways has been informed of the damage."
