More chances to comment on planned pylon link through Thurrock

RESIDENTS in Thurrock are to be given further opportunity to comment on plans to create a network of pylons carrying power from Norwich to Tilbury.
The National Grid project would see 159km worth of overhead cables strung between 50-metre-high pylons spanning from Norwich to Tilbury — the remaining cabling would be run underground, making the whole project 184km long.
It has been widely condemned in Norfolk, Suffolk and North Essex, but response to the project in south Essex has been somewhat muted.
While whole villages in the north are up in arms, with placards adorning many local roads and the issue has been debated at a number of council meetings, it's been relatively quiet in Thurrock.
Known as the East Anglia Green project, the scheme was first announced in early 2022.
The National Grid has made some changes to its original plans and has set up what it describes as 'targeted consultations'.
A statement says: "We're holding a series of targeted consultations on some potential changes to the proposals we published at our statutory consultation in summer 2024.
"Most of these changes have been identified from feedback we've received. Before we make any decisions, we are going back to consult with those people living near these proposed changes.
"We are phasing the consultations which started in January with locations in Norfolk and Suffolk. We are now holding targeted consultations on proposed changes at locations in Essex and Thurrock, closing on 11:59pm on Thursday, 27 March 2025.
"While these are local, targeted non-statutory consultations anyone can take part, and all our targeted consultations materials are available on our project website.
"Please let us know which location you're providing feedback on when submitting comments. Each location has a reference name, which is available in the documentation in our project library.
"You can take part either by emailing us, writing to us using our Freepost address or via the online questionnaire.
"Email – [email protected].
"Freepost – FREEPOST N TO T.
"Online feedback questionnaire – click here.
"We will review all the feedback we receive and carefully consider it as we refine our proposals, ahead of submitting an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) later this year.
"We're holding three webinars via Microsoft Teams to give people an opportunity to ask the project team questions.
Essex – 17 March 2025 at 6:00 pm
Essex and Thurrock – 18 March 2025 at 12 noon
Thurrock – 18 March 2025 6pm
"You can view recordings of webinars which focused on proposed changes in Norfolk and Suffolk on our project website.
"We expect to hold a further targeted consultation on a change to the substation connection at Tilbury. We will write to local residents and community representatives with more information in March."
