IN the latest in a series of missed collections, Thurrock Council has acknowledged it failed to make scheduled waste bin pick-ups in the east of the borough earlier this week.

Residents in Stanford-le-Hope reported that the blue recycling bins due to be emptied on Monday were not collected.

The council has fallen short of apologising this time, and says it did forward people on social media and via its website.

A statement from the council issued today (Wednesday, 14 June) says: "On Monday crews completed collections of garden waste and were unable to carry out recycling collections as planned.

"This is because they were dealing with significantly more garden waste than they usually would.

"A normal daily garden waste collection would be around 90 tonnes and last week they were dealing with up to 240 tonnes a day.

"The extra weight led to delays that meant additional collections took place on Saturday and garden waste collections were completed on Monday.

"Notices have been shared on the website and through social media. Additionally information explaining this would likely be the case was included in last Friday's Thurrock News resident e-newsletter.

"We are asking those who would normally have had their blue bin collected on Monday to put it back out for collections on Saturday 17 June, we will also collect one clear bag of extra recycling from each household if it's left next to the blue bin."
