RESIDENTS and motorists in the west of the borough face two more days of disruption as Essex and Suffolk Water carry out work on a water main on London Road.

Work began today on a stretch of road in South Stifford but there was little advance warning other than signs on the roadside warning of lengthy delays.

A Thurrock Council statement confirmed: "These are roadworks being carried out by Essex and Suffolk Water to reconnect a water pipe. The council is aware but as no road closure is needed a traffic regulation order and public notice are not required."

Meanwhile, there has been some good traffic news in the area.

Over recent weeks Thurrock Nub News has been reporting on the efforts on a local resident to try and bring about an enforcement regime to stop lorries breaching weight restrictions.

Hundreds of pictures of HGVs breaking the rules have been sent to the police, who have confirmed a significant number of fines have been issued.

And the message appears to have got through to HGV drivers.

The campaigning resident recently reported to Nub News: "I have forwarded approximately 200 pictures of lorries using London Road as a short cut. And now there is hardly any using it. The main offenders now are overseas ones but our police can't do anything about them.

"All it took from me was 30 minutes every day at different times and filling in the police reporting page online, showing that anyone can get things done."
