MP is critical of lift delay at Grays rail station

THURROCK MP Jen Craft MP has called for a new deadline for the completion of two new lifts at Grays Station, in the face of ongoing delays.
In a letter to Network Rail, Mrs Craft expressed "deep concern" that the project to upgrade the station's facilities was still underway.
The installation of two new lifts is part of long-awaited accessibility improvements at the station. The works were expected to last a year, completing at the end of 2024, yet construction is ongoing.
Mrs Craft called on Network Rail to provide a new timeline for the delivery of this work, with communication to local residents and station users about any further delays.
As the fourth most used station in the East of England, Grays Station serves as a major commuter hub on the c2c line. The new lifts – one on each platform – will connect to the existing pedestrian subway under the tracks, providing step free access for passengers.
Mrs Craft said: "There must be no further delay in delivering the upgrades to facilities at Grays Station.
"While work to install two new lifts remains incomplete, passengers with mobility needs are being denied access and commuters are experiencing disruption.
"It's crucial that this long-awaited step free access is delivered at the earliest opportunity, to enable everyone in our community to use Grays Station regardless of their mobility needs."
