MP welcomes support to crack down on illegal vape shops in Thurrock

EAST Thurrock MP James McMurdock has welcomed confirmation from Thurrock officer that Essex Police will receive government support as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal vape shops and the illicit sale of tobacco and vaping products.
This funding forms part of a £30 million government initiative aimed at supporting local enforcement action against rogue retailers selling illegal or unregulated products, particularly those targeting children.
Following discussions with Thurrock Police, the MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, Mr McMurdock said: "residents across Thurrock have raised growing concern about the increase in illegal shops and the sale of unregulated products, particularly near schools and in our town centres."
"I welcome that Thurrock will now receive additional support to help tackle these rogue operators and strengthen enforcement activity locally."
"Illegal vaping products pose serious concerns from both a public health perspective and a trading standards perspective. Legitimate local businesses should not be undercut by those operating outside the law."
Mr McMurdock added that he would continue working with Thurrock Police to ensure that the funding delivers meaningful action for residents and businesses across the constituency.
