EAST Thurrock's MP has welcomed a new initiative offering opportunity to young people and says he is looking forward to the launch of a pilot scheme in the region.

'Changing Futures' is a government led project that aims to change systems and improve services for people who experience multiple disadvantage including homelessness, substance misuse, poor mental health, domestic abuse, or contact with the criminal justice system.

Essex is one of 15 chosen areas in England who will be funded to take part in the£64m programme and has been allocated £2,846,500 to pilot new ways of working and deliveringinnovativeservices.

Its backers, including South Basildon and East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe, say the three year programme will stabilise and then improve the life situation of many adults who find themselves in problematic circumstances.

Changing Futures will provide 'amoreperson-centred approach and to reducecrisisdemand, test a different approach to funding, accountability and engagement between local commissioners and services, andbetweencentral government and local areas'.

Mr Metcalfe said: "I welcome the Changing Futures Programme which will bring nearly £3m to Essex to help the most vulnerable. This vital programme will pilot new ways of working and delivering innovative services for those who experience multiple disadvantage."
