MUCH of Thurrock and the M25 and access roads were gridlocked this afternoon (Wednesday, 24 July) from around 4pm.

The major cause is believed to be an accident involving a van and a container lorry just after the QEII bridge.

The road was closed to allow an air ambulance to land.

The M25 southbound at Junction 30 at 8.20pm.

The incident between a van and a lorry happened on the A282 (the road that links the M25 either side of the crossing) at around 4.05pm today (July 24).

A woman was taken to hospital for treatment where her injuries were described as non life threatening.

Queues of traffic either side of the Dartford Crossing were taking up to two hours to cross and queues in Essex and Kent went back several miles.

Other minor accidents and breakdowns contributed to the delays.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called at around 4.05pm on Wednesday, 24 July 2024 following a collision involving a van and a lorry on the A282 in Dartford.

"Officers attended and one woman has been taken to a London hospital for treatment."
