N'ice work if you can get planning permission - bid for dessert cafe; New home planned on grass patch in village; Plus other borough-wide planning applications

SOUTH Ockendon could shortly get a new dessert and ice-cream shop and cafe if an application for change of use of premises is approved by Thurrock Council for one of its own buildings.
Mr Mohammad Islam, who lives on Corran Way in the town, wants to take over the former community information unit at 22A Derwent Parade, which is owned by the council, and open it up as a desert cafe.
He says the new venture will be welcomed by local residents who have expressed a demand for it and it will not impact on a neighbouring cafe on Derwent Parade as it is a different type of business.
The premises will be open seven days a week, from 9am to 10.30pm. Mr Islam is applying for change of use for the premises as he wants to put in 10 seating spaces which he requires before he can complete a lease on the premises from the council.
A similar application for change of use of a shop in Corringham earlier this year was rejected by planning officers, though the applicant has appealed.
