A FOX club has been returned to the wild after being trapped in a sports ground net - and local organisations have been asked to thing about animal safety to avoid a similar thing happening again.

Orsett-based South Essex Wildlife Hospital stepped in to help after the young animal became trapped at a school in Basildon and was unable to breathe properly or escape.

Lead vet Tom Linsel was called to the scene last week and managed to cut it free just in time.

Following treatment, it was released back to its mother in the wild.

The school and other sporting facilities, have been advised to lift nets when they are not in use, so wildlife can pass through easily.
