With Amazon set to hire 300 veterans, reservists and military spouses this year, the company is highlighting the work that former service people already do across the company.

Having launched the Amazon Military Programme in 2011, 2,500 veterans have already been employed.

The newest recruits will cover over 35 different jobs ranging from health and safety specialists, engineers, sales managers and team leaders to senior managers.

One of the veterans already working at Amazon in Tilbury is Jason Jibb, who joined the company two years ago through the military programme.

He joined the Armed Forces after leaving university and began his officer training in Sandhurst.

After serving for eight years, he decided to leave the army in order to develop and focus on himself and other aspects within his life, leading him to joining the Amazon team, where he started as an area manager.

Jason said: "I was aware of the key underlining similarities between Amazon and the military.

"Through speaking to several individuals, they indicated that Amazon is less of a steep learning curve than other companies and this was appealing to me.

"In the armed forces, we develop abilities like leadership and team management, and this sets us up well for a career at Amazon.

"In addition to the shared qualities in both organisations, the work at Amazon also offers a platform to learn new things in an environment that could be considered quite familiar."

Amazon says it has hired 2,500 veterans since launching a recruitment programme in 2011

Amazon has been awarded the employer of the year award at the Ex-Forces in Business Awards two years running for its efforts in supporting ex-services personnel and military spouses.

Amazon is also a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Originally introduced in 2011, the covenant has a focus on helping the Armed Forces community to access the same support from government and commercial services as the public.

Ruzanna Sargsyan, general manager at Amazon in Tilbury added: "The Amazon Military Programme has been a fantastic success and Jason is one of the many brilliant veterans and reservists working in Amazon buildings here in Tilbury and around the UK.

"The skills learned in the military are highly transferable to a role at Amazon and we're pleased to continue offering employment, training and development opportunities to former servicemen and women through our programme."
