New man in charge of Thurrock Police has been heading up firearms unit

By Neil Speight 5th Jan 2020

THURROCK's new police commander will be Chief Inspector Richard Melton.

He succeeds Claire Talbot, who has left Grays Police station for a central force role in command of 'contact management.'

Chief Insp Melton moves to Thurrock after a three year service as Chief Inspector with the force's firearms support unit which deals with firearms, public order, building entry and covert operations.

He took to social media today (Sunday, 5 January) to announce his move, saying: "Today is my final day as chief inspector for armed policing at Essex Force Support Unit.

"I have had the most amazing three years on Operational Policing Command working with amazing people. I am looking forward to taking over from Claire Talbot."
