New target for a teenager with a heart of gold

By Neil Speight 22nd Jun 2021

ONE of Thurrock's young heroes has once against set out on a fundraising mission for a great cause.

Despite having her own health problems 17-year-old Katie Marie Davies, from Stanford-le-Hope has spent much of her life putting others first and raising money – particularly for defibrillators.

Katie has suffered from a heart condition all of her life and she and her family have dedicated themselves to supporting those who have helped them and who contribute to the caring Thurrock community.

Last month Thurrock Nub News reported on how Katie had been honoured by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Now she is back on the fundraising trail, aiming to provide the new Treetops Free School, currently under construction at the Treetops site in Grays, with a defibrillator.

Katie's Heart Appeal has already contributed two machines to Treetops, one in the main building and one in its sixth form centre.

The target is £1,000 and anyone who want to contribute can do so via [L] https://www.gofundme.com/f/treetops-free-school-defibrillator?utm_campaign=p_cp_display&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer [.L+]this link. [.L]

If the appeal is successful, the new machine will be the 17th Katie has helped provide in the area through her appeal – and she has helped and advised many other organisations on how to set up their own similar fundraisers.
