A TILBURY man who seriously assaulted a victim while trying to rob his home is behind bars.

Josh Jerrum, 33, of St. Chads Road knocked on the door of a property in Elgar Gardens in the early hours of 24 October 2025.

The victim answered the door and was quickly pushed back as Jerrum forced his way inside.

He proceeded to threaten the victim and search his address, demanding valuables and cash. When the victim attempted to force him out his property Jerrum attacked him with a nearby lamp, leaving him with a serious head injury before fleeing the scene.

Police quickly attended with paramedics and launched an investigation, with forensic evidence quickly linking Jerrum to the scene.

On 19 November he was located, arrested and charged with attempted robbery and causing grievous bodily harm without intent, and found guilty at Basildon Crown Court on 1 May 2026. He was found not guilty of a third charge of possession of a bladed article.

At the same court he has now been sentenced to nine years in prison for attempted robbery, and 16 months concurrently for the GBH. At the same hearing Jerrum was sentenced to 12 months in prison, to run concurrently, after pleading guilty to another burglary on 17 September 2025 where he'd stolen cigarettes, wine and cash from a shop in Montreal Road, Tilbury.

Speaking after the hearing Temporary Detective Sergeant Ed Mitchell said: "Jerrum was a remorseless and violent repeat offender, and the district is a safer place with him jailed.
