A TEENAGER from Grays has been recognised for his exceptional contribution to healthcare science.

Lewis Stjepic-Hill, 19, is part of Basildon Hospital's Audiology team and took home the Rising Star award at the recent East of England Regional Healthcare Science Awards.

Judges said his work "stood out for its impact, innovation and commitment to improving outcomes for patients and services".

Lewis said: "This means a lot to me. I try to do my very best for our patients every day and I'm so grateful to have that recognised. I've really enjoyed learning how to fit and repair hearing aids and how to carry out hearing tests.

"What I love most about my job is the connections I make with our patients. I always try to make them feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible."

Lewis was nominated by Hollie Partridge, Chief Audiologist at Basildon Hospital.

She said: "The Rising Star award recognises someone who is at the beginning of their career and is already making an impact. Since joining our team last year as an apprentice, Lewis has thrown himself into every opportunity and is always keen to learn.

"In fact, he has picked up the skills needed to repair hearing aids so quickly that we have been able to offer 100 more repair appointments every month."
