THE cancer nurse charged with causing serious injury to a female police officer has pleaded not guilty.

Abiola Akilla, 45, of Godman Road, Chadwell St Mary, – who describes herself on social media as working for the NHS and Macmillan Cancer care as "an oncology nurse for over 15 years" - appeared before Judge Samantha Cohen at Basildon Crown Court today (Wednesday, 2 December).

She was charged with two offences, of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to PC Caroline Green and of causing serious injury to the same officer by dangerous driving.

The charges follow an incident that took place when Akilla was stopped for an alleged speeding offence in Grays on Saturday, 31 October.

Judge Cohen instructed that the court be shown a video of the incident taken on the officer's body camera before accepting Akilla's plea of not guilty to both charges.

A trial before a jury will now be scheduled and is likely to happen in March.

Judge Cohen continued an existing bail condition that Akilla must reside at her home, discontinued a requirement that she must report twice weekly to Grays Police station and imposed a new clause that said she must not drive a vehicle under any circumstances.
