THURROCK Council has been singing the praises of work carried out at Derwent Parade, South Ockendon, which it says has been given a fresh new look following a comprehensive clean-up.

The shopping parade had been experiencing a build-up of litter, which was affecting the appearance of the area and surrounding public spaces.

Council clean-up teams carried out an extensive programme of works, including litter picking, mechanical and manual sweeping of paved areas, removal of debris and cleansing of surrounding public spaces. The work was undertaken to restore the area to a high standard and improve the overall appearance of the local centre.

The improvements have significantly enhanced the presentation of Derwent Parade, making it a more attractive place for people to visit, shop and work. The clean-up also supports Thurrock Council's commitment to creating clean, safe and well-maintained places across the borough.

Council leader Cllr Richard Bingley said: "Clean and well-maintained neighbourhoods are essential to creating civic pride and helping people feel positive about where they live. The work carried out at Derwent Parade has transformed the appearance of the area, creating a cleaner and more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and local businesses.

"We want all our town centres and shopping parades to be places that people can be proud of, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness is an important part of achieving that. This is the standard we expect to see across Thurrock as we continue to improve places for our communities.

"We would ask that residents and visitors help us by properly disposing of their litter in one of the many litter bins we provide, or by taking it home."
