LOCAL hospital staff, schools and businesses took part in the nation's biggest tea break as part of the NHS Big Tea.

The national event, celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the NHS, saw staff across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust enjoy more than 10,000 cups of tea and biscuits, and was an opportunity to thank NHS staff who have done so much during the pandemic.

The delivery of tea and biscuits was made possible by the charity Rapid Relief Team (RTT). Paddy Myatt, local team leader for the charity, explained that they wanted to get involved to thank staff for their hard work and celebrate the birthday of the NHS.

"RRT is constantly inspired to serve the community by way of compassion and support in time of need and we recognise the toll that this pandemic has had on so many people.

"We are delighted and honoured to attend this event as it very much serves our core purpose in providing for those that tirelessly serve our community."

There were also tea drinking events across schools, local businesses and people's homes in the spirit of togetherness for the NHS.

Elise Fleetwood, fundraising manager, at Mid and South Essex Hospitals Charity, was pleased to see so many people supporting the event.

She said: "It has been a challenging year for NHS staff, so it's been wonderful to see so many staff, school children and businesses get involved in the day. Everyone has had a lovely time and it has just helped bring everyone together."
