Out and about on a final day of Jubilee celebrations
THURROCK'S weekend of celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee came to a conclusion on Sunday (5 June) with another raft of street parties and events across the borough - while some residents travelled to London to take part in the Jubilee Pageant that wound its way through the capital ending at Buckingham Palace where Queen elizabeth took a final salute from the country on her balcony.
And Thurrock Nub News was once again out and about capturing the spirit of the day and Jubilee weekend by visiting events across the borough from Fobbing in the east to Purfleet on Thames in the west.
Amond the communities we visited was Fobbing, where villagers began the celebration by lighting a beacon on Thursday evening and ended it with a picnic in the park on Sunday. And throughout the weekend the village was adorned with Jubilee scarecrows.
Just around the corner, in Milton Road in Corringham, residents came together for a street party - typical of many that took place across the region. There were a number of events in Tilbury, including this gathering on Calcutta Road where we caught up with local councillor John Allen.
Residents in Dart View Close in Grays were also in party mood and gave us a rousing welcome as they joined in the fun and one of many renditions of the national anthem was captured on camera in Rushley Close in Blackshots.
At Purfleet's Heritage and MIlitary Centre visitors enjoyed a warm welcome from its volunteers, while inside the Band Let's Be Havin You played a couple of sets of music - ending with the weekend's singalong anthem 'Sweet Caroline'.
And just down the road hundred of residents of Aveley enjoyed an afternoon of activities on the village recreation ground with live performances participation events and lots of stalls.
Back in the heart of the borough at Little Thurrock's appropriately named Jubilee Garden borough MP Jackie Doyle-Price, Mayor Cllr James Halden and local ward councillor Allen Mayes checked in with us to deliver a final verdict on an extended weekend packed with fun as local residents enjoyed a fundraising charity event which included a Punch and Judy Show and lots of stalls and other live entertainment.
And to round off an afternoon on the road, Nub News editor Neil Speight ended his tour of the borough with residents of Coombe Rise in Stanford-le-Hope and put his feet up for a welcome beer with residents who looked back on a very memorable weekend!
And while all that was going on, 19 of Thurrock's heroes and a number of other borough residents travelled to London to take part in the Jubilee pageant. They will be repising that event with a performance at Tilbury's carnival later in the year.
