Parkway and Asda access is still a flooding problem and years have gone by with little action to resolve it

A COUNCILLOR from Tilbury has focused attention yet again on the problems of a flooded road and roundabout on the approach to one of the borough's superstores.

An industrial estate as well as the Asda store in Tilbury is accessed via Thurrock Parkway, which is now frequently flooded and at times, almost impassable for smaller vehicles.

Just a few days short of two years ago, Thurrock Nub News visited the site after heavy rainfall and highlighted the problem (see film link below).

That story and film provoked a strong local response, including from then council election candidate John Allen. He has since won his seat back on Thurrock Council and he has spoken of his continued frustration at a lack of action over the problem.

In late January 2021 he told Nub News: "I have sent a lot of enquiries and complaints to Thurrock Council regarding this ongoing problem! And supposedly Thurrock Council are in dialogue with the water company (Essex and Suffolk) for a solution."

A solution still remains to be found and this week Cllr Allen invited Nub News back to the road to witness how nothing has changed.

He told us: "This is a very busy road that is part of the local roads infrastructure. I beleive it is the ultimate responsibility of National Highways as it is an extension of the A1089 (Dock Approach Road) but it is also under the jurisdiction of Thurrock Council. I keep getting told the situation is being reviewed but nothing is done.

"This is dangerous and the road itself is becoming very badly damaged.

"It's time that a proper investigation takes place betweenm all those involved and the problem is solved."
