A WOMAN is recovering in hospital after being seriously injured in a crash at a busy junction in Chadwell St Mary on Saturday.

The incident, at the junction of River View and Brentwood Road, happened at lunchtime. It has been reported locally that the injured person, a female pedestrian, was crushed against railings.

Emergency services, including the Essex Air Ambulance, were deployed to the scene and the road was closed for some time.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called to Brentwood Road near Chadwell Hill shortly after midday on Saturday (20 August) following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a van.

"The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries, not believed to be life threatening.

"The road was closed for a number of hours."

The East of England Ambulance Service said: "One ambulance, and ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance was called to Brentwood Road, Chadwell St Mary following reports of a woman injured in a road traffic collision. One patient was transported to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital by road ambulance."
