Pel smashes target just one day into marathon trek for Friends of Treetops
A THURROCK man has already obliterated a fundraising target just a day after setting out on a marathon sponsored walk in support of youngsters and their families from Grays' Treetops School.
Pel Scopes is walking 315 miles from hois home Grays to Land's End in Cornwall, a trek that will see him walk for 10 hours a day and is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
Pel, who set out yesterday (Friday, 3 January) says: "I have chosen to do this in order to raise money for a very worthy local charity called Friends of Treetops Schools.
"This amazing charity support the Treetops Learning Community in Grays which is a Special Educational Needs school who teach children from 4-19 years old with a wide range of complex needs and disabilities.
"The charity provides support, SEN inclusive events, specialist resources and improvements which are not covered by the usual school's budget."
Pel's initial target was £1,000 but he has already surpassed the £5,000 mark and the sum continues to grow.

Pel's son Johnny has spoken about his dad's fundraising mission in a short video you can view here.
