Persistent offender who returned to store to steal spends festive season behind bars

A MAN who breached a court order to enter Grays High Street in order to steal was hailed for 18 weeks by Basildon magistrates.

Darren John Tubby, 47 of London Road, Grays, was prohibited from entering the High Street by a criminal behaviour order made by magistrates Court on 16 October this year.

However, just five days later he entered the town's Poundstretcher store and stole multiple packs of shower gel and bodyspray.

The following day he returned to the store and stole 20 packs of batteries, valued at £51.

When he appeared before Southend Magistrates before Christmas they deemed the nature of his offences so serious he was jailed. They highlighted his previous record and fact that he has failed to meet his obligations agreed at previous court hearings dealing with his offending history.

A 24-year-old Aveley man has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assaulting a woman, harassing her and damaging her property which included an IPhone.

Ronnie Reiss Downey of Hall Avenue will appear before Basildon magistrates next week (Tuesday, 3 January) where his alleged victim will give evidence.

he was granted unconditional bail.

Glen Walter Charlie Roberts, 36, of Teviot Avenue, Aveley, admitted the theft of meat and sweets valued at £60 from the Co-op store in Stanford-le-Hope when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court.

He will be sentenced next month.
