RESIDENTS and parents have called on Thurrock Council to take action and improve road safety outside a South Ockendon school.

In the latest move after years of concerns for children outside Somers Heath Primary School on Foyle Drive, local residents have submitted a petition to a meeting of the full council requesting a crossing point.

It was handed in by residents' representative Mark Hurrell at last night's (Wednesday, 30 November) meeting at the Town Hall in Grays.

Mr Hurrell said: "Enough is enough. Parents are sick of worrying about their children's safety just getting from school to home. It's unacceptable that children have to dodge speeding cars and heavy HGVs on a dangerous road. It's an accident waiting to happen.

"Thurrock Council must act. They must listen to residents' fears, protect our children and insert a crossing now."
