RESIDENTS in Grays are being canvassed about plans to move the town's Post Office from the Grays Shopping Mall to nearby Clarence Road.

The switch is needed because owners of the Mall plan to demolish much of it and create new shopping arcade alongside a number of residential tower blocks.

The site of the proposed new office has previously been home to Sue's Schoolwear.

A statement from the Post Office says: "We are proposing to move the branch to a new location - 57-59 Clarence Road, Grays, RM17 6QJ.

"The area in which the current branch is located is being redeveloped and the branch will no longer be available for Post Office use. We have therefore had to identify an alternative location to continue to offer Post Office services to the local community.

"We are pleased to advise the postmaster has identified an opportunity to move this branch to a new location. Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term and the relocation of Grays Post Office will enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community.

"We'd like your views on the proposal. We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our plans."

The survey can be accessed via this link.
