PLANNING inspectors have backed Thurrock Council's decision to veto a number of housing development schemes in Stanford-le-Hope.

A bid to create two flats on the land at the back of a shop on London Road failed to win support on appeal, as did a plan for four new homes on land adjacent to St Clere's Hall, on Stanford Road.

And an appeal against the decision to reject a bid for nine new homes on Third Avenue also failed to win support.

A succession of judgments supporting the Thurrock planning team was completed by rejection of an appeal against refusal to allow an application for the erection of a single storey bungalow to the rear of 61 Lampits Hill, Corringham.

The bid by Cladding UK Ltd at 12 London Road, Stanford-le-Hope, to demolish a rear garage block and erect a new building with flats had failed to win support from the council's planning committe and an appeal was lost as inspectors agreed there were issues with privacy in relation to adjacent premises and a number of parking problems.

The application for a bungalow at Lampits Hill fell foul of aspirations because of the effect of the development on the character and appearance of the surrounding area while inspectors rejected the St Clere's Hall appeal because they agreed with Thurrock Council that the proposal was inappropriate development in the green belt having regard to local and national policy.

A bid for the new homes on Third Avenue was rejected because inspectors considered the main issue to be the effect of the proposal on the character and appearance of the area.
